Building & Code Enforcement
The Building and Code Enforcement Department provides public safety by enforcing Municipal and State regulations and codes relative to the construction, remodeling, alteration, repair, removing, demolition, conversion, occupancy, equipment, use, height, area and maintenance of all buildings and structures in the City.

All building inspections and plan reviews are subcontracted through licensed inspectors at
Bureau Veritas.

When is a permit required?
A permit is required when building, remodeling or enlarging a building. Permits are also required for other improvements to property. Projects that are cosmetic, such as painting, wallpapering, carpeting, cabinets, and trim work do not require permits. Additionally, permits are not required when replacing electrical fixtures on existing wiring, or existing plumbing fixtures.
Permits are required on following projects:
- Additions to a structure (residential or commercial)
- Building remodel that requires the addition or removal of an interior or exterior wall window or door.
- Building or replacing of a deck or porch.
- Electrical Work
- Plumbing Work
- Roof Replacement
- Fence (New or replacement)
- Concrete Work (Driveways, sidewalks, patios and flatwork)
- In-Ground and Above Ground Swimming Pools (storable pools are exempt)
- Hot Tubs or Spas
- Demolition of a building
- Signs
- New construction of a building, main building, accessory buildings (permanent or portable), garage, carport, patio covers, and gazebos.
